Malem Thongam, a dedicated transgender activist from the Meitei community, is on a mission to promote peace in conflict-ridden Manipur. Her ambitious campaign, 'Cycling for Manipur Peace,' has seen her cover over 2,300 kilometers across multiple states, starting from New Delhi's iconic Qutub Minar.

The journey hasn't been without hurdles. Recently, a Kuki organization has issued a warning against Thongam's planned passage through the Kangpokpi district, sparking concerns of escalating tensions. In a statement, the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) urged local authorities to halt her progress through the district to avoid potential unrest.

Security measures have been ramped up along National Highway 2 in anticipation of Thongam's arrival. Her expedition unfolds against a backdrop of ethnic turmoil, with over 260 fatalities resulting from the violent conflict between Kuki and Meitei communities that erupted in May. As divisions remain stark, efforts like Thongam's highlight the challenging path toward reconciliation.
