In an unprecedented move to transform Maharashtra's agriculture sector, the government unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at bolstering farmer support. Spearheaded by Agriculture Minister Dattatreya Bharane, these efforts include a groundbreaking 'Maha Agri-AI' policy, along with comprehensive loan waiver and welfare schemes.
Bharane highlighted the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Farmer Loan Waiver Scheme, alleviating up to Rs 2 lakh in crop loan debts and offering incentives for regular repayments. The Gopinath Munde Farmer Welfare Scheme has provided over Rs 375 crore in emergency aid, while the Farmer Accident Insurance Scheme is now extended to agricultural laborers with a Rs 120 crore allocation for 2026-27.
Maharashtra is pioneering the use of artificial intelligence in agriculture. The 'MahaVISTAAR - AI' app, supporting multiple dialects, offers real-time farming advice. Pilot projects demonstrate AI's potential to enhance productivity by 40% and cut fertiliser expenses by 30%. With these initiatives, the state is set to revolutionize its agricultural landscape.
