In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled a cross-border smuggling cartel, apprehending six suspects while seizing 30.045 kg of heroin, as stated by officials on Thursday. This major bust highlights the complex nexus of drug networks operating across borders.
Investigations by Punjab Police have uncovered that the detained individuals were connected to a smuggler based in Dubai, who was allegedly orchestrating the heroin consignments being transported from across the border. The accused reportedly retrieved drug shipments from designated spots, following instructions from their overseas handler, and distributed them throughout Punjab.
A case has been registered at Chheharta Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Preliminary probes suggest the syndicate operated under transnational directives, with ongoing investigations focused on uncovering all members and financial transactions involved, including possible hawala links. Punjab Police emphasized their ongoing battle to eradicate drug networks.
