Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel has turned to the Supreme Court, describing it as the party's "last hope" amid the heated row over Meenakshi Natarajan's disqualified Rajya Sabha nomination. Natarajan, representing Congress from Madhya Pradesh, faces a critical dispute ahead of the upcoming biennial elections.
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, addressing Justices PK Mishra and Atul S. Chandurkar during a session, articulated the urgency surrounding the case, urging for prompt court intervention or, at the very least, a succinct interim directive. Considering these factors, the Supreme Court is slated to hear the case imminently.
The controversy stems from the rejection of Natarajan's nomination by the Returning Officer, who pointed to an undeclared pending criminal case as the reason. Singhvi contested this rationale, arguing that the rejection was baseless and biased, highlighting only a summons had been issued without any formal crimination. The Congress seeks immediate reversal of this decision, contending bias in the process.
