In an impressive breakthrough against narcotics smuggling, Nurpur Police in Himachal Pradesh have successfully dismantled an interstate drug trafficking network by seizing 264.6 grams of heroin. The substance, concealed within a car's steering assembly, was classified as a commercial quantity under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Based on specific intelligence inputs, law enforcement set up a checkpoint near the railway crossing on Ulehrian-Milwan road, intercepting a white vehicle for inspection. Witnesses were present during the operation. A transparent polythene packet containing heroin was discovered during the search, later confirmed via a field test. The contraband weighed 264.6 grams.
The accused, Jitender Singh, 41, from Bhartwal village in Punjab's Gurdaspur district, was arrested immediately. Investigations suggest he is tied to a wide-reaching narcotics network across multiple states. He has three prior NDPS cases registered against him in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. Police have seized the heroin and the Honda Amaze car used in the operation and are working to dismantle the larger supply chain, identifying suppliers and intended recipients.
