The Western Command of the Army marked the 14th Indian Organ Donation Day with an 'organ donation awareness' event in Chandimandir on Monday. The programme saw the participation of Lt General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Command, alongside numerous dignitaries.
Organised to foster awareness and underscore the importance of organ donation, the event featured talks, motivational videos, and tributes to selfless donors who have given others a new lease on life. A subsequent panel discussion addressed common myths surrounding organ donation.
Pamphlets detailing the organ donation process and pledging protocols were unveiled by the chief guest. Lt General Katiyar also honored the families of soldiers who donated organs, including those of Subedar Arjun Singh, Havildar Rajesh Singh, and Sepoy Ankit, who donated his father's organs.
Highlighting organ donation as a profound act of empathy, Lt General Katiyar encouraged attendees to pledge their organs and raise awareness about the noble cause. The Indian Army's organ donation initiative, led by the Armed Forces Organ Retrieval and Transplantation Authority (AORTA) since 2007, has seen notable success. The Command Hospital, Western Command, has retrieved and transplanted 85 organs from deceased donors since 2014, saving multiple lives.
