An eight-month pregnant woman from Tehri tragically died while being transferred to a higher medical facility after her referral from Beleshwar Community Health Centre, according to officials. This marks the third such case in recent months, raising concerns over the region's maternal healthcare system.
Neetu Panwar, 24, was initially brought to Beleshwar CHC after her health worsened. The lack of regular prenatal check-ups had resulted in severe swelling and high blood pressure, necessitating a transfer. However, she succumbed before reaching the destination, igniting public outcry and prompting an inquiry.
Tehri's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shyam Vijay, has appointed a three-member investigation team to scrutinize the medical records and treatment provided to Neetu at the centre. With similar tragic cases in September and October, the investigation aims to prevent further maternal deaths in the region.
