In Indore's Bhagirathpura area, the recent death of a 62-year-old man has intensified the ongoing crisis surrounding contaminated drinking water causing a diarrhoea outbreak.

Amidst claims of 29 deaths due to this outbreak, a death audit report submitted to the Madhya Pradesh High Court has confirmed 16 fatalities linked to the contaminated water. Family members of the deceased, Khubchand Bandhaiya, have attested to the prevalence of poor water quality conditions.

The High Court has launched a judicial probe, entrusting former judge Justice Sushil Kumar Gupta to lead the investigation. Officials report that the infection is attributed to an E. coli bacterial contamination in 51 tube wells after leakage from a municipal pipeline allowed sewage water to infiltrate the system.
