In response to escalating temperatures in the national capital, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday inaugurated 13 special relief vans at the secretariat. These vans are tasked with distributing cotton towels, caps, cold water, and ORS sachets across Delhi. The initiative is part of the newly released 'Delhi Heatwave Action Plan 2026.'
Gupta emphasized the government's commitment to preventing heat-related illnesses, highlighting the plan's role in safeguarding residents. Each van serves one of Delhi's 13 districts, equipped to handle emergencies during ongoing heatwaves. Residents can access this service by calling helpline 112, operating between 11 am and 6 pm.
Targeting high-footfall and heat-prone areas, the operation involves 10 civil defense volunteers per district, distributing vital materials daily over three months. Eco-friendly practices are integrated into the program, with a focus on vulnerable groups. Changes have been implemented in educational institutions and labor activities to enhance public safety and awareness.
