Faced with escalating Israeli strikes in Iran, Indian medical students like Imtisal Mohidin are living in fear and pleading with the Indian government for a swift evacuation.
Mohidin and others at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran describe a chaotic scene where blasts echo close to their hostels and apartments, sowing panic and anxiety among the student community. Despite the university suspending classes, over 350 Indian students remain trapped under deteriorating conditions.
The violence took a toll, with three Iranian nuclear scientists, also professors at Shahid Beheshti, losing their lives. Amidst this turmoil, students report that university support is minimal, placing their trust in Indian Embassy advisories for guidance. The embassy issued an urgent advisory urging Indian nationals in Iran to stay indoors and keep in touch via a dedicated Telegram channel. Students from other parts of the country like Faizan Nabi in Kerman and Midhat at Iran University of Medical Science are experiencing similar panic, highlighting the dangerous situation that overshadows their academic pursuits.
While Tehran remains a hotspot, Nabi reports growing unease in Kerman and increasing difficulty in communication with family back home due to poor internet connectivity. The students' urgent plea is for timely evacuation that can bring some respite and safety, as Iranian airspace restrictions continue to complicate potential escape routes.
