On Saturday, Jairam Ramesh, a senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP, criticized the newly released US 2025 National Security Strategy. He took a veiled jab at India-US relations, particularly questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rapport with US President Donald Trump.
Ramesh's critique centered on the strategy document's claim that Trump mediated the escalating May conflict between India and Pakistan, following Operation Sindoor in retort to the tragic Pahalgam terror attack. Released by the White House, the 33-page document notes Trump's conflict resolutions, but glaringly omits past criticisms of Pakistan found in the 2017 strategy.
While the Trump Administration's strategy positions India as a key partner for economic and strategic collaborations, Ramesh offered a sarcastic remark on Modi-Trump relations, citing the changing diplomatic landscape with a hint of irony. The document emphasizes stronger US-India ties and calls for India to play a critical role in Indo-Pacific security.
