Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized on Tuesday that Russia is prioritizing a lasting and sustainable peace agreement with Ukraine rather than a temporary truce. He stated that Moscow is focused on a guaranteed, long-term peace achieved through proper documentation, highlighting its stance on negotiations.

Peskov noted that the current talks do not align with the objectives of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. "Moscow seeks a permanent peace, unlike what Zelensky is demanding," he commented. In response to Zelensky's recent declaration of readiness to hold elections, Peskov indicated that the Kremlin had not yet addressed the proposition, noting the development as new and highlighting similar past comments from Putin and Trump.

Earlier, President Zelensky announced Ukraine's readiness to conduct elections within three months, contingent on security guarantees from the US and allies. His statement followed increased pressure from US President Donald Trump, accusing Ukraine of evading elections using the ongoing conflict as justification. Zelensky, countering the claims, urged legislative preparations for elections during martial law, seeking international assistance for security.

Under current Ukrainian law, elections are prohibited during wartime, and Zelensky's term expired last year, adding complexity to the electoral process amid the ongoing conflict.
