Ethiopia seeks strengthening of bilateral ties with Georgia: Official

Ethiopia is seeking to enhance its bilateral ties with Georgia. The officials of Ethiopia and Georgia met for a political consultation in the capital, Addis Ababa on May 29.

According to Ethiopia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Markos Tekle, Ethiopia wants to boost its relations with Georgia while briefing the Georgian delegation on the political and socio-economic reforms undertaken over the past one year.

The peaceful power transition conducted in Ethiopia has opened a door for a new era of changes to blow in the country and across the Horn of Africa region, he said. During the consultation, Dr Markos also asked Georgia to share its experience to Ethiopia in the areas of culture and tourism, development of renewable energy, job creation, and export of value-added products.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Alexander Khvtisiashvili, for his part commended the reforms being undertaken in Ethiopia’s and pledged that his government would provide support for the initiative.

Investors from Georgia are keen to invest in Ethiopia’s coffee sector, he said, adding his country will share its experience in the sectors which Ethiopia has sought, including in innovation and information communication, as reported by FBC.

Alexander Khvtisiashvili added that Georgia is ready to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ethiopia to strengthen the ties between the two countries. Georgia opened its embassy in Ethiopia in 2013.
