Tragic Explosion at Simec Steel Plant: Investigations Underway
An explosion at a steel plant owned by Simec in Tlaxcala, Mexico, resulted in the death of at least 12 workers and injured one critically. The incident halted operations as investigations are ongoing, with initial reports indicating it may have been caused by a smelting apparatus collapse.
An explosion at a Simec-owned steel plant in Mexico’s Tlaxcala state has claimed the lives of at least 12 people, according to state authorities. The tragedy occurred when a spill of liquid steel led to the fatal incident, temporarily halting operations at the complex in Apizaco.
The state civil protection office suggested a collapse of the smelting apparatus as the likely cause. In a statement, Simec confirmed the accident and assured that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances.
All individuals killed in the explosion were workers, reported the state prosecutor’s office. One person remains hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities continue to explore the potential causes, noting that explosions can occur when molten steel contacts water.
