Awaiting Peace: Lebanon-Israel Ceasefire Hopes
Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati remains hopeful that a ceasefire with Israel will be finalized soon, following discussions with U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein. A leaked proposal suggests Israel's forces will withdraw within the first week of a 60-day truce. The situation remains volatile, with continued conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed optimism on Wednesday regarding a potential ceasefire with Israel, as a draft deal leaked by Israel's public broadcaster indicated a possible 60-day truce could be imminent.
The leaked document, allegedly from Washington, outlines Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon in the first week of the truce. Discussions with U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein have reportedly fueled Mikati's hopes for an agreement before November 5.
The ongoing conflict with Israeli forces and Hezbollah persists in Lebanon, and the Israeli military continues its operations, notably targeting the historic city of Baalbek amid widespread displacement of civilians.
