The Indian government has yet to finalize the National Litigation Policy, which seeks to speed up the resolution of pending cases. This was confirmed on Thursday by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, in a written statement in the Rajya Sabha.

Meghwal highlighted that the Central government has initiated various measures to promote alternative dispute resolution mechanisms as a means to reduce litigation numbers. These initiatives are part of a broader attempt to streamline judicial processes.

Since its first introduction in 2010 under then-law minister M. Veerappa Moily, the National Litigation Policy has been repeatedly drafted and revised, yet never implemented. Meghwal, who took over as law minister last year, signed the draft policy, which is now awaiting a decision from the Union Cabinet.
