Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday insisted that the Maharashtra government expedite the implementation of three new criminal laws throughout all police commissionerates in the state.

During a review meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis present, Shah highlighted the need for establishing a model directorate of prosecution as outlined in the updated laws.

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, which replaced the antiquated 1872 colonial laws, took effect on July 1 last year. Shah stressed regular reviews and the crucial role of police, lawyers, and judiciary in ensuring speedy justice and a high conviction rate.
