An overnight Russian drone strike has left tragedy in its wake in the Kyiv region, claiming one life and injuring at least four others. The attack, which set several houses ablaze, was confirmed by Mykola Kalashnyk, the governor of the area surrounding Ukraine's capital, through a message on Telegram.
Kalashnyk expressed his sympathies to the mourning family after a civilian body was found in a burned residential house. The aerial assault reportedly damaged at least five homes and two multi-storey buildings. Dramatic images shared by Kalashnyk showed firefighters combating massive flames amid the night raids.
The attack ensued amidst air raid alerts that gripped Kyiv and the eastern regions for hours starting Tuesday evening, as confirmed by Ukrainian air force data. Witnesses reported hearing explosions and air defense operations. Both Russia and Ukraine deny targeting civilians in the ongoing war, which has claimed thousands of Ukrainian civilian lives.
