The Punjab government has pledged an ex-gratia payment of Rs 25 lakh to the families of three workers who died in a devastating building collapse in Ludhiana, as confirmed by officials on Monday.

The building, located in the Focal Point Area and housing a textile factory, collapsed on March 8, creating immediate concerns for worker safety.

In addition to the compensation, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann assured Rs 2 lakh each for the bereaved families, while the government covers medical expenses of nine injured workers, according to Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal.

Jorwal held discussions with medical teams, affirming full support for the affected families and ongoing recovery efforts.

The National Disaster Response Force teams have successfully rescued four individuals, with no further indications of trapped workers; however, they remain on standby.

Safety protocols are being adhered to as removal of hazardous materials, such as sulphuric acid, is conducted at the site per Punjab Pollution Control Board regulations.

A magisterial inquiry led by SDM Jasleen Kaur Bhullar has been launched to find the cause of the collapse, and police have lodged an FIR against five suspects to ensure accountability.
