Syrian Committee Seeks Justice for Sectarian Violence
A Syrian fact-finding committee is investigating sectarian killings linked to the conflict between the army and Bashar al-Assad loyalists. The committee aims to arrest and prosecute any perpetrators involved in the violence, which has resulted in the killing of hundreds of civilians, particularly in Alawite-majority regions.

A Syrian fact-finding committee announced its commitment to seeking justice for sectarian killings reportedly involving the army and loyalists of Bashar al-Assad. The committee affirmed that nobody is exempt from prosecution as it pursues the arrest of those responsible for the violence.
With mounting pressure on Syria's Islamist-led government following reports of mass civilian casualties, particularly those from the Alawite sect, the committee has been tasked with a thorough investigation. The committee spokesperson, Yasser Farhan, emphasized the relaying of investigative outcomes to the presidency and judiciary as a step towards accountability.
In the meantime, Syria's interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, addressed concerns over potential involvement of defense ministry forces in the killings during a Reuters interview. He indicated the government's openness to international cooperation while prioritizing national mechanisms in documenting violations for potential prosecution.
