In a recent address in the state assembly, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi outlined the current situation and strategy against Maoist activity in the state. He revealed that only 100-120 Maoists remain active, a significant reduction from previous years.
The number of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected districts has decreased from 15 to 10, with concentrated efforts in regions like Kalahandi, Bolangir, and Malkangiri. To combat the insurgency, an extensive security operation has been deployed, including central armed forces and advanced technology such as drones and UAV interceptors.
Majhi highlighted the 'Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy,' offering substantial incentives to former Maoists. This includes vocational training, marriage assistance, and financial rewards for capturing wanted insurgents. Compensation for casualties supports both fallen police personnel's families and civilian victims, reflecting a robust state commitment to addressing the Maoist threat.
