Counterfeiting and smuggling are major challenges for law enforcement, significantly affecting public welfare and the economy, stated an official on Wednesday.

Speaking at the FICCI CASCADE's Capacity Building Programme, Additional Commissioner of Police and Joint Director (Delhi Police Academy) Asif Mohammad Ali highlighted the necessity for enhanced enforcement measures.

These illegal practices, which adversely affect citizen well-being, require police empathy and stringent action against perpetrators, Ali asserted. Assistant Director Yogesh Malhotra emphasized the critical role of training in counteracting illicit trade, underscoring the importance of a skilled police force. A FICCI report disclosed the illicit market in FMCG, textiles, alcohol, and tobacco sectors is worth Rs 7.97 lakh crore, affecting consumer trust, businesses, and tax revenue. Over 450 officers participated in the program to gain requisite skills for these challenges.
