In a sweeping two-month operation, Indonesian authorities have apprehended 285 individuals, including 29 women and seven foreigners, suspected of drug trafficking. The crackdown, conducted nationwide, resulted in the seizure of over half a ton of various narcotics, highlighting Indonesia's struggle against persistent drug trafficking issues.
The National Narcotic Agency, led by Marthinus Hukom, reported the discovery of money laundering schemes tied to two drug syndicates, with confiscated assets valued at approximately USD 1.5 million. The dramatic arrests included 36 suspects paraded in orange prison uniforms, emphasizing the crackdown's effectiveness.
The operation also uncovered extensive international involvement and drug distribution through land, sea, and mail services. Despite strict drug laws, Indonesia remains a major hub for syndicates targeting its young population. The ongoing efforts underscore the nation's commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes and enforcing severe penalties.
