Chinese state-controlled organizations marked the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's 'retrocession' to Chinese rule with an event on October 25. On Tuesday, Chinese state-controlled organizations held a commemorative event marking the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's 'retrocession' to Chinese rule. The observance was covered by China's state news agency, Xinhua.
The historical event signifies the date, October 25, when Japan, having colonized Taiwan since 1895, relinquished control of the island back to the Republic of China in 1945. This transition is referred to as 'retrocession' by both Taipei and Beijing.
However, Taiwanese officials are barred from participating in China's official commemorations, a restriction confirmed by the Taiwanese government last week.
