Justice Delivered: A Widow's Determination Meets Supreme Court Intervention

After two decades of legal struggles, Saynokta Devi, a widow whose husband died in a train accident, received Supreme Court-ordered compensation from the Railways. The court's directive followed earlier rejections based on flawed claims of her husband's unsound mind. The Railways are now working, with legal assistance, to locate Devi and deliver the compensation.

The Supreme Court made a landmark ruling in favor of Saynokta Devi, a widow who battled for justice after losing her husband in a tragic train accident in 2002. Despite an arduous legal journey, the apex court mandated the Railways to compensate for the loss.

Devi's fight began after her compensation plea was declined by lower courts, citing her husband's alleged unsound mind as the reason. However, the Supreme Court dismissed these claims as unfounded and ordered the Railways to provide Rs 4 lakh plus interest as compensation.

Efforts are now underway, involving local police and legal services, to trace Devi and ensure she receives the compensation. The Supreme Court has stipulated detailed steps for delivering the payment, reflecting its commitment to effectuate true justice.
