The Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their crackdown on drug-related crimes, revealing significant progress this year. As of September, a total of 1,342 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were registered, resulting in 1,305 challenges, 142 convictions, and 197 acquittals, according to officials.

Efforts on the financial front saw 67 investigations leading to the attachment of 81 properties, valued at Rs 16.64 crore. This move forms part of a broader campaign against drug trafficking, emphasized by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Crime, Sujit K Singh, who noted the completion of 339 trials, including 12 high-conviction cases.

In line with the strategic operation, 215 detentions were invoked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in NDPS Act, and 222 drug hotspots were identified, leading to the demolition of 44. Surveillance measures are robust, with 983 CCTV cameras installed across both territorial divisions, and nearly 99% of retail pharmacies now using computerized billing and monitoring systems.
