The authorities at Nagpur Central Jail are cracking down on a fraudulent scheme involving 40 inmates who allegedly used fake medical certificates to secure parole. The deception came to light following a complaint by prison guard Mayur Rajeshwar Nagpure who triggered an investigation into the matter.
The elaborate plot unfolded between January and June when the accused prisoners submitted bogus medical certificates, claiming that their relatives were gravely ill and needed their presence. This convincing facade was, however, dismantled during meticulous verification, which revealed the certificates to be fake.
This incident highlights a critical breach in the parole process, prompting calls for stricter verification measures. It has raised concerns about systemic vulnerabilities that convicted inmates could exploit to temporarily escape the confines of justice.
