The Jammu and Kashmir Police have made a significant breakthrough in the Red Fort suicide bombing investigation, recovering a mobile phone belonging to the bomber, Dr. Umar-un-Nabi. This device contained a video justifying the attack as a 'martyrdom operation' and provided evidence of deep radicalization.
The recovery followed the interrogation of Umar's brother, Zahoor Illahi, who was driving the explosive-laden car. Initially feigning ignorance, Illahi eventually revealed under questioning that Umar had instructed him to dispose of the phone.
Forensic data from the phone indicated Umar's exposure to radical Islamic content and outlined a more extensive plan for a VBIED blast linked to the Babri Masjid anniversary. The investigation, which began with the arrest of stone-pelters and led to the discovery of a network spanning multiple states, foiled a potentially devastating plot.
