Hewlett Packard Enterprise Pursues $1.8 Billion from Mike Lynch's Estate
Hewlett Packard Enterprise is seeking $1.8 billion from the estate of Mike Lynch over its acquisition of Autonomy. HP claims Lynch inflated Autonomy's value before the 2011 purchase. Lynch's estate challenges a previous ruling and the interest sought by HP, arguing financial exaggeration by HP in its claims.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise is demanding nearly $1.8 billion from the estate of the late tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, in a legal battle over the 2011 acquisition of Lynch's company, Autonomy. This claim was presented at London's High Court by the U.S. tech giant's legal team.
The conflict arises from HP's assertion that Lynch, along with Autonomy's former CFO Sushovan Hussain, inflated the company's worth before selling it for $11.1 billion. Shortly after the acquisition, HP had to write down Autonomy's value by $8.8 billion, alleging financial misrepresentation.
The ongoing legal dispute involves Lynch's estate appealing a 2022 ruling that held Lynch liable. The estate disputes the $761 million in interest HP demands as excessive. While HP's initial lawsuit demanded $5 billion, the court granted a lesser amount. Lynch, who died in a yacht accident last year, had maintained his innocence.
