The Judicial Inquiry Commission investigating the Leh violence has granted a 10-day extension for submitting statements and evidence. This decision comes after the Leh Apex Body formally requested more time, revealing the ongoing tensions and demands for statehood in Ladakh.
Led by former Supreme Court judge B S Chauhan, the commission was instructed by the Ministry of Home Affairs on October 17 to explore the circumstances that led to the deadly clashes on September 24. The violence resulted in four deaths, including a 1999 Kargil war veteran, and 90 injuries as security forces clashed with protesters.
In response to a written request for more time, Justice Chauhan considered the appeal virtually and extended the deadline to December 8. This extension allows more individuals to participate in the inquiry, as the Leh Apex Body continues to advocate for Ladakh's constitutional safeguards.
