The German government is set to comply with a ruling from its constitutional court, which demands an immediate decision in the visa cases of an Afghan former judge and his family currently in Pakistan, according to a statement from an interior ministry spokesperson on Friday.
Approximately 2,000 Afghans approved for relocation to Germany have been stranded in Pakistan after Berlin paused its relocation program. This program was initially intended for individuals at risk under Taliban rule or those who worked with German forces.
The constitutional court on Thursday evening opted for extraordinary measures to ensure an immediate visa decision, recognizing the increasing deportation risks the judge and his family face, as he had previously sentenced members of the Taliban.
