In response to a rising tide of criminal activities within its ranks, the Karnataka police force is spearheading reforms to curb misconduct. Directed by the state's top cop, M A Saleem, the new measures include regular background checks and integrity assessments to prevent police personnel from engaging in illegal activities such as robbery and theft.
Saleem emphasized that severe disciplinary action will be meted out to any officer involved in criminal acts. This comes on the heels of recent scandals, including the arrests of police sub-inspectors for robbing a gold merchant and a constable involved in a high-value cash robbery.
To restore public trust, the directive mandates training programs on ethical conduct and legal responsibilities. Police units are also instructed to provide counseling to address issues that may lead to ethical lapses. Strong enforcement of these measures is required to maintain the department's integrity.
