India's Swift Humanitarian Response to Cyclone-Hit Sri Lanka: A Commitment to Recovery

In a significant display of neighborly support, Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha engaged with Sri Lankan corporate leaders to highlight India's robust response to the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah. The cyclone, which has tragically claimed over 600 lives, left the island grappling with severe infrastructural damage and isolated regions.

India, having initiated Operation Sagar Bandhu, acted swiftly as the first responder to Sri Lanka's appeal for international assistance. The support entails more than 58 tonnes of relief materials, including dry rations and medical necessities, as well as technical aid aimed at rebuilding critical infrastructure, underscoring India's continued commitment to assisting its neighbor in a time of dire need.

Efforts have extended to deploying medical teams and the National Disaster Response Force, which have been integral in executing rescue operations and providing essential healthcare in affected regions. This robust humanitarian initiative not only highlights the depth of international cooperation but also reinforces the strength of regional solidarity in addressing natural calamities.
