In a recent Rajya Sabha session, Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose brought to light the plight of migrant workers from West Bengal who were deported to Bangladesh prematurely. Ghose expressed concern over the lack of adequate verification in these cases.
She recounted the experiences of 26-year-old Sunali Khatun and 32-year-old Sweety, both deported under contentious circumstances. Khatun's return to India only occurred following intervention by higher courts, questioning the urgency and fairness of the deportations.
Ghose criticized the labeling of Bengali-speaking migrants as 'infiltrators,' highlighting the dangers they face in places like Delhi and Gurgaon. She also linked the issue to broader concerns, such as the Goa nightclub fire that claimed 25 lives, many being migrant workers.
