France Takes Intelligence Lead: Two-Thirds of Intel to Ukraine Now From Paris
France now delivers two-thirds of intelligence to Ukraine, significantly supplanting the United States. This shift followed the U.S. decision in March 2025 to halt such support, urging Ukraine's Zelenskiy toward peace talks with Russia. Macron praises Europe's increased support to Ukraine over the past two years.
President Emmanuel Macron announced Thursday that France now supplies two-thirds of intelligence to Ukraine, largely taking over from the United States. This change comes after Washington suspended intelligence support in March 2025, part of efforts to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy into peace talks with Russia, following the 2022 invasion.
Macron applauded Europe's enhanced role in supporting Ukraine, highlighting a coalition of 35 countries now contributing comprehensively, both financially and militarily, since the U.S. ceased direct weapon supplies and funding. Macron's remarks contrast with claims by Kyrylo Budanov, who emphasized Ukraine's dependence on U.S. intelligence for critical military insights.
Ukraine's GUR military intelligence agency and the French defense ministry have declined to comment on the specifics of Macron's statement. However, France asserts its intelligence support to Ukraine, independent of Washington, has been significant since the U.S. suspension.
