Judge Demands Resolution for Wrongful Deportation of Student
A U.S. judge has given the Trump administration a three-week deadline to resolve the wrongful deportation of Any Lucia Lopez Belloza, a college student sent to Honduras. The administration must issue her a student visa or face contempt. The deportation violated a court order, which was described as a preventable mistake.
A U.S. judge has ordered the Trump administration to rectify its error in wrongfully deporting a college student, Any Lucia Lopez Belloza, to Honduras. The administration has been given three weeks to resolve the issue by issuing her a student visa.
The incident occurred after 19-year-old Lopez Belloza was arrested at Boston's airport while trying to visit her family in Texas for Thanksgiving. Despite a court order barring her deportation, she was sent to Honduras.
Judge Richard Stearns stated the administration has until March 3 to rectify the situation, threatening contempt charges if compliance is not met. A government representative called the deportation a regrettable mistake, while the Justice Department declined to comment.
