The United Nations Security Council has denounced the recent wave of militant violence in southwestern Pakistan's Balochistan province, which has resulted in numerous civilian and security force casualties. Militants have targeted civilians, police, and security installations, prompting a robust response from Pakistani forces to counteract the insurgency.
The Pakistani government reported that 197 militants linked to the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army have been neutralized. This group has claimed responsibility for suicide bombings and coordinated attacks that broke out last Saturday, adding to the region's longstanding separatist tensions.
In a powerful statement, UN Security Council President James Kariuki expressed strong condemnation of the "heinous and cowardly" attacks and extended condolences to the victims' families and the Pakistani government. Despite governmental claims of quelling the insurgency, violence from ethnic Baloch groups seeking autonomy or independence persists.
