Miami Talks: Paving the Path to Peace in Ukraine
The United States is urging Russia and Ukraine to find a resolution to their ongoing conflict by summer. President Zelenskiy confirmed US-proposed talks in Miami, highlighting political priorities in Washington. Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia reached a POW exchange agreement but have not resolved major issues despite discussions on ceasefire and postwar recovery.
The United States is pushing for a resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict before summer, as outlined by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. In a press statement on Saturday, Zelenskiy mentioned that the US has proposed a new series of talks to be held in Miami, with Ukraine agreeing to participate.
Zelenskiy noted that the Americans are eager for the war's conclusion by June, with the timing seemingly influenced by concerns over mid-term Congressional elections in the US. While acknowledging these political motivations, Zelenskiy confirmed earlier reports about proposed negotiations in the upcoming week.
Negotiations in Abu Dhabi ended with no major breakthroughs, though POW exchanges are set to continue. Both sides discussed ceasefire monitoring and long-term economic strategies, including a 'prosperity plan' for Ukraine's recovery. Zelenskiy also disclosed intelligence on potential Russian-US cooperation deals, stressing adherence to Ukraine's constitution.
