In a fervent plea on International Women's Day, Congress leader Kumari Selja urged the Haryana government to guarantee Rs 2,100 monthly to all women under the Lado-Lakshmi scheme. She criticized the complicated conditions introduced in 2025, which have limited the scheme's reach and impact.
Selja highlighted that despite a Rs 5,000 crore allocation in the government budget, the funds have largely remained unspent. Citing stringent conditions like mandatory monthly proof of life and exclusion of women already receiving government aid, she argued these barriers contradict the essence of empowerment.
The MP from Sirsa demanded that the conditions be simplified and urged for a comprehensive review of the scheme to ensure its benefits are widely accessible, emphasizing that genuine empowerment transcends mere announcements and requires effective policy implementation.
