Lok Sabha Passes Pivotal Bill to Boost Ease of Doing Business

The Lok Sabha has passed the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026, aimed at decriminalising and rationalising minor offences to enhance ease of doing business and living. The bill modifies 784 provisions from 79 Central Acts, benefiting people and MSMEs, while outdated provisions will be removed.

The Lok Sabha took a significant step on Wednesday by approving the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026, a legislative measure aimed at transforming the business environment in India.

This new bill proposes amendments to 784 provisions across 79 Central Acts managed by 23 ministries, with a key focus on decriminalising 717 provisions and reforming 67 others to improve ease of living.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the bill's potential benefits for individuals and MSMEs. Despite opposition from Congress member K Kavya, whose amendments were turned down, the bill was passed by voice vote.
