In a significant legislative move, India's Parliament has passed a comprehensive bill to amend 784 provisions across 79 central laws, aimed at decriminalizing minor offences.

Known as the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026, the legislation received approval in the Rajya Sabha through a voice vote after a detailed discussion led by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

The passage of this bill marks a major step in improving the country's business environment, easing the lives of citizens and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and realigning the approach to minor legal infractions.
