Supreme Court Criticizes Petitions Halting Development Projects

The Supreme Court on Monday expressed dissatisfaction with the trend of filing petitions that hinder developmental projects, asking how the nation will move forward under such circumstances.

Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi noted the lack of acknowledgment from environmental activists on any beneficial projects. This was highlighted during a plea against the National Green Tribunal's decision, which dismissed an appeal to revoke environmental clearance for the Pipava Port expansion in Gujarat.

The court underscored the importance of progress while maintaining environmental diligence and suggested activists present viable solutions rather than obstruct development. The bench emphasized that constructive input is crucial for sustainable advancement.
