West Bengal Defends Annapurna Yojana Form Amid Criticism

West Bengal minister Agnimitra Paul defended a comprehensive form for the Annapurna Yojana scheme to ensure benefits are solely for Indian citizens. Despite criticism over potential exclusions, Paul emphasized the need for detailed information, while announcing clean-up measures and penalties to boost urban cleanliness.

Agnimitra Paul, a minister in West Bengal, defended the implementation of a comprehensive 12-page application form for the Annapurna Yojana. The scheme aims to ensure that welfare benefits are confined to Indian citizens only, amidst criticism that the detailed documentation could inadvertently exclude genuine beneficiaries.

Paul responded to the backlash, criticizing the Trinamool Congress and emphasizing that the BJP government aims to exclude non-citizens from welfare benefits. She highlighted public funds should be allocated solely to citizens. Additionally, she announced plans for stringent waste-management penalties beginning September to enhance urban cleanliness, coupled with a new app to enable public feedback and improve civic conditions.

Also, all public transportation must carry waste disposal facilities, and frequent dustbin installations across streets are planned.
