States to Establish Destination Management Authorities Nationwide

India is set to introduce Destination Management Authorities at tourist sites across the nation to foster holistic environments. The project aims to engage local stakeholders and promote community involvement, combining efforts for better management. This comes in response to challenges such as encroachment and lack of amenities around culturally significant areas. Initially targeting 100 sites, the plan will be tailored by each state to suit local needs.

India's tourist sites, notorious for congestion and insufficient facilities, could see significant improvements with this new approach. Drawing on global examples, like Ekta Nagar's management near the Statue of Unity, the government hopes to replicate such success at more sites.

This move will also promote a 'jan andolan' or mass involvement approach, encouraging citizens to see these areas as economic powerhouses rather than just historical relics. States will have the flexibility to appoint their own leaders to manage these new organizations.
