In a deadly attack near the Israeli border with the West Bank, a gunman opened fire at three separate locations on Sunday, killing one man and injuring several others, according to Israeli authorities.
Police reported they thwarted the suspect after a brief pursuit, reclaiming the weapon and vehicle involved. The shootings took place in and around Kochav Yair, close to the West Bank city of Qalqilya. A second suspect, apprehended later, was said to have implicated himself in the attack and attempted to assault officers during his arrest.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack, lauding police actions intervening in the assault. President Isaac Herzog also expressed disgust at the incident, extending condolences to the victim’s family and wishes for the injured. Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for policy changes towards Israeli Arabs, amid escalating tensions.
