Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have inaugurated Jabil Inc.'s advanced manufacturing facility at Ranjangaon in Pune, marking a major addition to India's growing electronics manufacturing sector.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including senior political leaders, government officials and executives from Jabil. Among those present were Jabil Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Andy Priestley, senior leader Dilip Walse Patil and Dnyaneshwar Katke. The facility is expected to play a significant role in strengthening India's electronics ecosystem by manufacturing critical components used in artificial intelligence-driven data centres and other advanced technology applications.
AI Infrastructure Creates New Manufacturing Opportunities
Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw highlighted the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and the growing demand for data centre infrastructure worldwide. He said AI data centres have emerged as one of the most important growth drivers in the global technology landscape, making domestic manufacturing of critical electronic components a strategic priority for India.
According to the Minister, the new Jabil facility will manufacture essential components required for modern data centres, supporting both domestic demand and international markets. The plant has been designed with advanced manufacturing capabilities and high operational capacity, enabling it to serve India's expanding digital infrastructure needs while contributing to exports.
Vaishnaw noted that building such capabilities within the country aligns with the objectives of the Make in India initiative, which aims to strengthen local manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports in key technology sectors.
Electronics Sector Emerges as Export Growth Driver
The Minister also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policy focus on electronics manufacturing for helping transform the sector into a major contributor to the national economy. He said electronics manufacturing has grown rapidly over the past few years and has now become the third-largest category among India's goods exports. The expansion of the sector has been supported by the development of a broader ecosystem that includes component manufacturing, finished electronic products and domestic supply chains.
Officials believe investments such as the Jabil facility will create employment opportunities, strengthen industrial capabilities and increase India's participation in global technology value chains. The new manufacturing unit is expected to support the country's ambitions of becoming a major global hub for electronics production while contributing to economic growth and technological advancement.
