BJP Criticizes Congress Over Caste Row

The BJP criticized Congress for escalating a caste-related controversy, questioning why Rahul Gandhi took offense at inquiries about his caste. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra argued that Gandhi often questions others' castes, including officials and judges, thus prompting fair scrutiny. The dispute caused a ruckus in Lok Sabha, with opposition demanding an apology from Anurag Thakur.

The BJP on Wednesday criticized the Congress for escalating the caste row, questioning why Rahul Gandhi took offense when asked about his caste. The party's spokesperson, Sambit Patra, argued that if Gandhi can question the castes of others, including officials and judges, he should be open to similar queries.

However, the ruling party clarified that Anurag Thakur did not specifically mention Gandhi's caste when discussing the Union Budget in the Lok Sabha. Despite this, Gandhi felt insulted, leading to a major uproar among Opposition members, who demanded a caste census and an apology from Thakur.

Addressing a press conference, Patra called it a surprise that Gandhi, who frequently questions others' castes, took offense this time. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also slammed Congress, asserting there was nothing wrong in questioning Gandhi's caste, as he often tries to divide the country along caste lines.
