Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi are set to visit Jammu and Srinagar for crucial meetings related to the upcoming assembly elections, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal confirmed on Tuesday.
Whether Congress will form an alliance with the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) remains uncertain. Both parties are part of the INDIA bloc and previously contested the Lok Sabha polls together. JKNC Vice President Omar Abdullah announced on August 18 that his party has started its election preparations.
The first elections in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with vote counting on October 4. The Supreme Court has mandated the election process to conclude by September 30, 2024.
