External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar launched a pointed critique of Western countries, accusing them of perceiving democracy as solely a Western trait and failing to apply democratic values in foreign policymaking.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Jaishankar emphasized the need for Western nations to acknowledge and learn from successful democratic examples in regions beyond their own. He lauded India's persistent adherence to democratic principles, even under challenging conditions.
Addressing a panel, Jaishankar countered claims, specifically by US Senator Elissa Slotkin, that democracy fails to address essential needs such as food security. He highlighted India's provision of nutrition to 800 million people as a testament to the practicality of democracy in addressing such issues.
