In a surprising move on Friday, President Donald Trump removed Air Force Gen. CQ Brown from his position as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This decision sidelines a respected officer and history-making fighter pilot as Trump aims to remove military leaders who endorse diversity and equity.
Gen. Brown, known for advocating institutional change and focusing on potential conflicts with China, was one of only two Black generals to have held the chairman role. His 16 months in office were marked by challenges such as the war in Ukraine and tensions in the Middle East.
Trump announced his nomination of Air Force Lt. Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine, a seasoned F-16 pilot, as the next chairman. Despite bipartisan support for Brown, his future became uncertain following Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's comments regarding a merit-based review of senior officers.
